Middle Grade Reader’s Section
Have you finished Harry Potter and are now looking to level up? Or maybe you’re ready to graduate from Goosebumps to something spookier and more mature? Or do you like realistic fiction like The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl? The Teen Section now has a spot just for you! Designed with grades 6-8 in mind, we have books like Kwame Mbalia’s Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, Katherine Arden’s Small Spaces, and Nancy Springer’s The Enola Holmes Mysteries.
We also have manga and graphic novels just for you, like Kitchen Princess, Cardcaptor Sakura, and the books of Raina Telgemeier and Svetlana Chmakova.
Expanded Manga Section
The WALL OF MANGA is complete! Are you looking for popular, completed series like Attack on Titan, Assassination Classroom, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun or The Promised Neverland? Or something newer and ongoing, like Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family, or My Hero Academia? Maybe you’re ready to get up to speed with your classic manga, like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Naruto, Akira, or InuYasha? Prefer slice of life, like Komi Can’t Communicate, Given, or Kaguya-Sama Love is War? No matter what, we’ve got you covered. There’s a reason teens come from miles around and tell us we have the best manga section in the area. Come see why!
Growing Graphic Novels
Our graphic novel section is also growing. From memoirs to superheroes, we a huge selection. We’ve got Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo’s hugely popular Teen Titans graphic novels, as well as character-driven narratives by Mariko Tamaki, Gene Luen Yang, and Neil Gaiman. Whether you like X-Men or Lumberjanes, Invincible or Heartstopper, you’ll find something for you at RPL.
Meet Your Librarian
Teen librarian Danielle does all the book purchasing and program planning for RPL teens. She grew up in Los Angeles County in California, where she went to Cerritos College, before coming to Connecticut and eventually enrolling in Charter Oak State College. Before RPL, she worked with children and teens at Avon Free Public Library, Bloomfield Public Library, and Hartford Public Library. She has been reading manga since 4th grade (don’t ask her how long ago that was), and has a shiba inu (yes, a real doge!) named Miko. She’s been to Japan thrice, as well as England, Spain, Honduras, and Canada. Her current hobbies include drawing, writing, cooking, and hoarding houseplants that she is finally learning to keep alive.
Her favorite manga right now are the supernatural murder-mystery Erased by Kei Sanbe; the time-bending slice-of-life Orange by Ichigo Takano; and the old classic, Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi.
Her favorite book recommendations for teens are: Caraval by Stephabie Garber; Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson; Red Rising by Pierce Brown; and The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. For tweens: Small Spaces by Katherine Arden; The Serpent’s Secret by Sayantani DasGupta; and The Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney.
Send her your book recommendations if there’s something you’d like to see on RPL’s shelves.
