Special Collections

Local History

The library has an extensive collection of local history materials about the city of Rockville and town of Vernon, including city directories, biographical material on prominent families, and Rockville High School yearbooks. Because many of these items are irreplaceable, they may only be used in-house. Please call the library at (860) 875-5892 to arrange a convenient time to access this collection.

Phone Chargers

Android and Apple chargers are now available for use within the library building.

To borrow a charger:

  • Bring your library card, driver’s license, or a photo ID to the adult circulation desk
  • Fill out the sign-out sheet
  • Charge away!

Seed Lending Library – We are open for the 2022 season!

Borrow seeds from the library and watch your garden grow. Made possible through a grant from Vermont-based seed company, High Mowing Organic Seeds, the seed library features a variety of 100% organic, non-GMO seeds for vegetables, greens, herbs, and flowers. With cosmos, tomatoes, butternut squash, dill, zinnia seeds, and more up for grabs, there’s something for everyone!

How do I sign up?

Anyone interested in borrowing seeds must fill out a membership form, located in a binder next to the seeds. Though you’ll only need to give us your name and contact information once, we ask that you record which seeds you’ve taken every time you borrow from us.

How many seeds can I take?

There’s a limited supply of seeds, so we prefer that patrons be reasonable about how many they take overall. You CAN take a whole seed packet, but if you don’t think that you’ll use all the seeds inside, then grab an orange coin envelope and take just what you need.

How do you “lend out” seeds?

Though we don’t expect patrons to save seeds, we do take donations of non-GMO commercial seeds in an effort to make this project more sustainable. When you bring seeds in, please make a record of it on your membership form.

I’m a first time gardener!

The library has a variety of gardening books, covering urban gardening, vegetable gardens, container gardens, flower gardens, and more! We’re also planning gardening workshops during the growing season—check our Facebook or website for workshop offerings.

Pedometer Lending Library

The library has 15 Ozo Fitness Digital Pedometers that can be borrowed by patrons in the same way that they borrow new books.

These easy-to-use pedometers can be put in a pocket or clipped to your clothing and will measure steps, distance, and calories burned. You can check them out for two weeks at a time.

Playaway Launchpad tablet collection for both children and adults

Launchpad tablets are pre-loaded with content, including educational games for kids and language acquisition programs and brain games for adults. They’re designed with a simple, easy-to-use interface, and 100% secure. With the tablets, there’s no need for Wi-Fi: you can use these devices anytime and anywhere.

The Launchpad tablets circulate for one week at a time and must be checked out on an adult card. If the tablet you’re interested in is checked out, you can put a hold on it, so that you’re next in line.

Cake Pans

We currently have 61 cake pans in our collection, which is located on the second floor. You can borrow one pan at a time, and keep it for a week. The pans must be picked up and returned at RPL. Click here to view a list of the pans we have.

Mobile Hotspots

We lend out portable wi-fi hotspots to library card holders ages 18 or older. A hotspot allows you to connect laptops, smartphones or tablets to the internet wherever you are!

Borrowing period is 1 week and there are no renewals.
